IBM said it would use Opteron in a server platform and high-performance computing clusters. It is also working with AMD for chip manufacturing.
Fugitsu-Siemens said it would come out with an Opteron workstation. RackSaver and other smaller server and workstation makers have already released products.
Microsoft said it will offer a 64-bit version of Windows Server 2003 for Opteron. It also intends to release 64-bit variant of Windows XP for the Athlon 64 processor (the desktop version of Opteron).
Sun Microsystems has said it may adopt Opteron into its x86 server line. In addition, Sun is planning software support for Opteron.
SuSE has released a version of Linux for Opteron processor, and Red Hat is planning to do so later this year.
