SAN JOSE, Calif. (AP) - Federal agents arrested a Sunnyvale man Friday for allegedly making death threats to employees a Canadian company he mistakenly believed sent him spam on how to enlarge his penis.
Charles T. Booher, 44, faces a maximum statutory penalty of five years imprisonment and a $250,000 if convicted on the charges.
He was released on $75,000 bond, according to Matt Jacobs at the U.S. attorney's office.
Between May and July, Booher repeatedly made threats by e-mail and telephone against employees of DM Contact Management, Inc., the Canadian Internet company which he wrongly believed to be the source of unsolicited e-mail advertising he had received about penis enlargement medication, Jacobs said.
In a May e-mail, Booher said that he was ``sending a package full of Anthrax spores to your address.'' In a June e-mail, he threatened to first disable an employee by a ``quick .22-caliber shot to (his) lower spine,'' then torture him with a ``power drill and ice pick.''
Booher persisted in making the threats even after Sunnyvale Police Department officers visited him and ordered him to stop, Jacobs said.
A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Dec. 11.
