Global e-commerce industry body IMRG has completed a survey and found that online Christmas shopping takes four times less time than traditional shopping.

The organisation also claims that Britain's 47m adults spend 155m days Christmas shopping each year, this means that a third of a million years could be saved if everyone shopped online, according to IMRG.

Other results showed that experienced online shoppers that know where to go to experience greater time savings and take six times less time than if they would have shopped offline.

The survey was based on 1,000 shopping experiences - 500 online and 500 offline - during the run up to Christmas 2002 and in November 2003.
