Shanghai. January 2. INTERFAX-CHINA - A new MSN virus named Worm.Jitux has been detected, increasing to three the number of MSN viruses since the start of December 2003, according to a statement from Rising, a major anti-virus software developer in China. The Worm.Jitux virus spreads over MSN Messenger, diverting users of the IM (instant messaging) client to malicious websites. Once a computer is infected, the virus will search for online MSN contacts automatically and then send malicious web addresses to them. When the recipients open the web pages, their computers will also become infected.
Rising advises computer users to be wary of web addresses delivered via IM software such as MSN Messenger and QQ, and to run the latest version of anti-virus software after opening suspicious links.
Although the spread of the virus has reportedly been limited, Rising predicts more viruses targeting MSN Messenger as the popularity of IM grows.
