Integrated circuit manufacturer AMD has announced that its AMD Opteron processors have been chosen to power the Sun Fire V20z server from Sun Microsystems Inc, a hardware, software and services supplier.
The new joint offering is designed to provide its users with enhanced performance with the Solaris Operating System or Linux. The AMD Opteron processor enables companies to work in a 32-bit or 64-bit environment so that they can migrate to a 64-bit computing system in their own time, should they wish to.

The cost of the product combination and the financial terms of the agreement were not announced.
