Information management software solutions provider LEGATO Software has launched version 5.1 of its ArchiveXtender product with support for Microsoft Windows Server 2003.
The new offering features optical technology from Sony and Plasmon which can be used in intelligent data management operations, claims LEGATO. Companies installing ArchiveXtender 5.1 will reportedly be able to reduce their storage costs of ownership and will also have access to a number of components for information lifecycle management.

ArchiveXtender 5.1 works by automating the storage and management of data on optical devices through the aggregation of media into a virtual storage pool which can be used to write and read data from CD, DVD, Magnetic Optical and Ultra Density Optical media.
