The Chinese authorities have issued new regulations that expand the censorship of mobile phone text messages.
The 'Self-Discipline Standards on Content in Mobile Short Messaging Services' were issued, according to the authorities, to clamp down on the sending of pornographic, fraudulent and illicit messages.

The new regulations form part of China's strict wireless and Internet censorship legislation and allow the country's biggest mobile phone services provider China Mobile Corp to contract out text monitoring and filtering work.

Some groups have warned that the new laws will be used to track down what China calls 'political dissidents', reports Yahoo News.
