The presentation also indicated that Google was not close to releasing the service, as it was running into broadband barriers to deal with large volumes of data. Google has given no comment on the potential G-Drive service. The company said that the information was published by mistake and that Google has nothing to announce at this time.
The service could potentially serve as a convenient web-based backup for users' computers in case of accidental deletion or a system crash or a means for sharing digital data among different users. Consumers may be wary of storing so much of their personal information on a remote source, though, as the G-Drive database could be a target for identity theft schemes.
