Creating auto-entry fields

Try typing this: ?È?§. Easy? Now type that again. Before you throw in the towel, remember that you can set Word Pro do such seemingly complicated tasks. You can store frequently used phrases in a glossary entry. To create such an entry, select the text and click on Edit > Glossary. Type a name for the entry in the Glossary entry name box and click Create. To use this entry, click on Edit > Glossary, select the entry you wish to insert and click on Insert.

What could be simpler?

Note: you can also bring up the glossary window by pressing [Ctrl] + [K]

Anchoring to paragraph

If you're a power user, you might want certain things in your document to be nailed in place. WordPro has options that allow you to stick part of a graphic or text to one place. If you want to beautify a graph, image or a section of text, you can use Frames. Click on Create > Frame. Enter the frame width and height in the respective boxes and click on OK. To insert text in this frame, click within the frame and type the text. To insert an image, click on File > Import Picture. This ensures that your text and your picture doesn't move anywhere if any reformatting is done to the document.

Slashing the splash screen

This is another time-saver. Every time you run the Word Pro application, the splash screen pops up and irritates you. To disable the opening splash and welcome screens, right-click the shortcut that opens Word Pro and click on Properties. At the end of the Target line, type /q. To disable only the logo screen, type /s. If Lotus SmartSuite is installed in C:\Lotus, the command line would be C:\Lotus\wordpro\wordpro.exe /q.

Working with master documents

When creating a new document using an Application Smart Master, Word Pro will emulate the application's environment for creating that document. When you reopen this document, Word Pro returns to its native menu set. If

you would like to use an Application Smart Master, complete the following steps:
1. Choose File > New Document.
2. Choose the 'Create from any SmartMaster' tab.
3. Choose the Type of SmartMaster that corresponds to the Application environment that you would like to work in (for example, 'Lotus Ami Pro', 'Microsoft Word' or 'Corel WordPerfect').
4. Click on OK.

Changing default fonts

To change the default font of any of the SmartMasters available with WordPro, do the following:

Choose File > New Document. Select the SmartMaster to be changed and choose OK. Choose Text and then Text Properties from the pull-down menus. In the 'Font' tab, there will be a 'Properties for' drop-down box. The drop-down box lists includes the desired font, font size and/or colour. Select the property that you would like to change from the drop-down box. Select the 'Style' tab of the Text Properties InfoBox. Click 'Redefine Style'. Choose OK to close the Properties for box. Choose File > Save As from the pull-down menus. Change the file type to 'Lotus Word Pro SmartMaster (*.MWP)'. Enter a description if desired. Change the directory to the location where the SmartMasters are stored. Type the filename for the SmartMaster, then press the [Enter] key. You will be prompted with the following:?Would you like the name of the editors who created this SmartMaster kept anonymous by assigning all edits to an editor named 'SmartMaster'??. You will be given two options; Yes and No. Click on Yes.

Keeping track of versions

It always happens that you wish to revert to something you had typed earlier, but which you unfortunately lost. WordPro allows you to keep track of the documents you work on, and you can use version control on your documents. To keep track of document revisions, click on Edit > Markup Edits. This enables tracking of document revisions. To review changes, click on Edit > Review Marked Edits. This relieves you of tracking changes and reverting to any previous phase of documentation.

Customising menu

WordPro gives you the option of either loading a customised menu or its default menu using the menu customisation option. To restore the Menu Customization option, choose File > User Setup, and then click on Word Pro Preferences. Then click the Default Files tab. Delete the entry in the Default Menu File text box and click OK. Word Pro will now revert to the standard menu set.

Open document, insert footnote

Word Pro's footnote options make it easier than ever to add numbered notes to the bottom of your document pages. Once these notes have been added to the page, you're free to edit, delete, and insert them at will. Word Pro makes all the necessary adjustments.

To insert a footnote, place the cursor exactly where you'd like the footnote reference and select Create|Footnote/Endnote. By default, Create Footnote and Bottom of Page will be selected. Click on OK, and the cursor will jump to the bottom of the document page, next to the appropriate reference number. Type your note, and then click anywhere on the page to exit the footnote area. Or, to return to the exact location of the reference number (within the document), select Create|Footnote/Endnote, select Return to Reference, and click on OK. Editing a footnote is the same as editing any other text in the document. Just click on the footnote to place the cursor there and type in your changes.
Want to get rid of a footnote altogether? Select the reference number within the document and press the Delete key on your keyboard. Word Pro will readjust the numbering of the remaining footnotes to account for the loss. The same holds true for inserting a note between two existing notes. Word Pro re-adjusts the numbering accordingly.

Formatting bullets

The properties of a bullet, number, or leading text can be different from other text in the paragraph. Place the insertion point at the desired bullet or number. Click the right mouse button and choose Text Properties.
Click the Bullets tab. Select 'Edit on page'. The cursor moves to the protected space immediately to the left of the bullet or outline number. Make the necessary changes.
When you resume working in the text, Word Pro deselects 'Edit on page.' You should consider creating a style for your changes, so you can apply this style to the other elements.

Disable 'Snap to Grid'

Did you draw objects or insert pictures, and found that everything gets stuck? This could happen because WordPro is aligning the objects to a grid that exists in the background.
You can turn off this automatic alignment if you right-click somewhere in the drawing frame, select Draw Properties, and remove the checkmark from the Snap Objects To Grid check box in the Misc. tab.
This is one feature by which WordPro makes sure that your objects in the document are in alignment.

In and out number formats

Is there a 1-2-3 number format you use frequently (such as a specific date format) that doesn't appear in 1-2-3's status bar list? Then put it there. Similarly, you can remove formats you rarely use. Go to Range>Range Properties, and on the third tab from the left, select the Category and Current format of a format you'd like to add to the status bar list. Select Show in Frequently Used List, and that format makes the list. Removing formats from the list is just as easy. In the same dialog box, select one you'd like to remove and deselect the Show in Frequently Used List option.
