Using voice chat
Most messengers, such as Yahoo!, MSN and ICQ, allow users to have voice chats. You need a mike and a good soundcard to use this facility. Voice chat is a convenient way of communicating and saves a lot of time and money. To do so in Yahoo! Messenger, click on the person's name and select the Voice tab, which will enable voice.
Improve video quality
The new generation of chat clients allow you to videoconference, using a web camera. Usually, on a dial-up connection, you will experience a delay between the times when an action takes place and when the image shows up at the other end. To minimise this delay you could reduce the image quality and increase the refresh rate.
In Yahoo! Messenger, go to Login > Preferences > Web cam and move the slider to 'Faster refresh'. The image that you receive now will be refreshed at a faster rate, which means smaller lag time in the transmission of actions to the other end.
