Adobe --- Part 2

Slow Display

ImageReady can become very slow when working with large images as it works best with 72 dpi images. Resize images to this resolution before working upon them in ImageReady.

Easter Egg

Hold down the [Ctrl] key and click on Help > About Adobe ImageReady to see the splash screen. You can also open this by holding down [Alt] + [Ctrl], and clicking the logo on the toolbar.

More Ducks

Hold down [Alt] and click the logo at top of the toolbar. The picture becomes a duck. Open a new image with transparent background. Type the word "duckerboard" (without quotes). The checkerboard pattern is replaced with a duck pattern.

Using Multiple Views

You can use multiple views to compare images in various modes. Click on View > New View, to create a new view.
For example, to view the image with browser dithering and to see how the image would look on a Mac. Change the views to optimise the mode, by selecting the tab on the image workspace.

Control Dithering

The dither Algorithm drop-down on the Optimize palette lets you choose a dithering method for the image. The Dither percentage slider lets you control the range of colours simulated by dithering. A higher dithering percentage creates the appearance of more colours and more detail in an image, but can also increase the file size. For optimal compression, use the lowest percentage of application dither that provides the colour detail you require.

Lights, Camera, Action

Use actions to automate repetitive tasks and save time. To create an action, click on the Menu arrow on the Actions palette, and click on New Action. Provide a name for the Action and click Record to start recording. Carry out the steps for the action, in the sequence that they should occur. Click on the Stop button on the Actions palette, to stop recording once you finish. To apply an action, select it and click on the Play button on the Action palette.

Better Text Effects

When using anti-aliased text with a transparent background, set the matte colour to the same as the background colour of the HTML page you will place it on. This avoids the appearance of a halo effect around the edge of the text. To specify the matte colour, select the colour from the Matte drop-down on the Optimize palette. You can also select either the Foreground or Background colours as the matte colour from here.

Gamma Correction

Often, your printout does not match what you see on your monitor. The gamma correction setting calibrates your monitor, so that it remains in synchronisation with your printer and your scanner. To do this, go to Start > Settings > Control Panel, select the option Adobe Gamma, choose the step-by-step wizard option, and proceed accordingly.

Changing Scratch Disk Scratch disk refers to the location on your hard disk where data is stored while you are working in Photoshop. When working in Photoshop, if you suddenly run out of space on this drive, you can have the scratch disk change drives automatically. To do this, you can specify more than one location for the scratch disk. To do so Go to Edit > Preferences > Plug-Ins & Scratch disks > First, and specify where you want the scratch disk data to be stored. Also specify the second, third and fourth options accordingly.
