HOW TO: Troubleshoot Situations Where You Cannot Connect to Secure Web Sites by Using Internet Explorer?

How Do I Troubleshoot Connecting to Secure Web Sites in Internet Explorer in the Microsoft® Windows® XP operating system?

The customer had Windows XP installed with IE6 and anytime she would try to access any secure websites she would receive a "Page cannot be displayed" error. After checking all of the security settings in IE and deleting the temporary files and cookies she was still unable to access the page. Tried building another user profile. We received the same error. Checked to see if Mcaffee was installed and it wasn’t. Took the customer through this process.

Click Start, and then click Run.

In the Open box, type cmd, and then click OK. At the command prompt, type the following lines and press ENTER after each line:

regsvr32 softpub.dll

regsvr32 wintrust.dll

regsvr32 initpki.dll

regsvr32 dssenh.dll

regsvr32 rsaenh.dll

regsvr32 gpkcsp.dll

regsvr32 sccbase.dll

regsvr32 slbcsp.dll

regsvr32 cryptdlg.dll

Click OK when you receive the message that DllRegisterServer in FileName succeeded.

Type exit to quit Command Prompt After doing so she was able to access the secure websites.
