How to reinstall WIN98 from the HDD
Debug/Fdisk/Format drive as you normally do, the boot the system with CD-ROM support in DOS.
Make a new directory on the hard drive using the following command:
MD C:\WIN98 [enter]
Log on to the CD-ROM drive and insert the WIN98 CD:
X: [enter] (X is the assigned drive letter to the CD-ROM, Usually D:)
Change to the WIN98 folder on the cd-rom:
CD WIN98 [enter]
Copy the files in the X:\WIN98 folder to the C:\WIN98 folder: this will copy approximately 94 to 104 files (depending on version)
copy *.* c:\win98 [enter]
Log on to the Hard Drive:
C: [enter]
Change to the WIN98 folder:
cd WIN98 [enter]
At the C:\WIN98\> prompt type the following command:
setup /ie /is [enter] (This disables scandisk at the beginning of the setup & disables making a boot disk)
This process has a few added benifits, the installation is faster, Windows remembers where it is installed from & will not require inserting the CD-ROM for driver installations.
DOS commands are listed in BOLD type.
