PC help: Surplus programs?

(144 total words in this text)
(120 Reads)  Printer-friendly page

Q Thinking my computer was running slower than normal, I opened Task Manager and found that there were around 70 processes running in the background, the majority of which are .exe processes.

I tried selecting the End Process button but a warning appeared saying that this could cause instability. I am convinced that I do not need all these running but how can I stop them safely?
Ronnie Blackwood

A Seventy processes may sound like a lot but it is not as bad as it seems; our computers have around the same number of processes running without any problems.

It is important to realise that Windows is made up of lots of smaller programs. The important information to check on Task Manager is the CPU usage under the Performance tab.
