Turn off VB scripting

In order to remove the VBS extension from the Windows, Known File Types list, go to Start > Control Panel > Appearance and Themes > Folder Options. Now, click on the File Types tab, click New, type 'VBS', and click Advanced. In the File Types option, find 'VBScript Script File', and delete it. Windows will no longer hide the VBS extension.

Encrypting File System

Windows XP Professional has the Encrypting File System (EFS) feature installed by default. Unlike Windows 2000, this is automatically enabled, as soon as you start using Windows XP, to create files and folders. But you will need to have your hard drive formatted in the NTFS format as FAT32 does not offer this functionality.

Unhiding file extensions

Windows operating systems contain an option to 'Hide file extensions for known file types'. The option is enabled by default, but you can disable this option in order to ensure that you can see all file extensions.

Go to My Computer > Tools > Folder Options, click on the View tab, and deselect the 'Hide file extensions for known file types'.
