Zip files and .rar files are not automatically scanned for viruses, when you download them from the Internet or receive them in your e-mail. You can scan these files by setting them in the scan for file types option in Norton AntiVirus.
Right-click on the Norton Antivirus icon in the system tray, and click on Configure Norton Antivirus. Click on Auto-Protect in the left pane, and then check the Scan files for Smartscan options, and click Customize. In the next screen click on the New button and the extension .zip and click on OK. The next time you scan your system for viruses, all Zip files will also be scanned. If you have Norton Personal Firewall, then you can also block ActiveX controls and other cookies. A unique feature of Norton is that it can also block ads and HTTP referrers-which tell sites where you are coming from on the Web.
