Downloading files as segments

It is easier to divide a download into different segments for faster downloading. This is especially beneficial in the case of slow connections. FlashGet allows files to be divided up to a maximum of ten segments. However, for dial-up connections, it is best to keep the number of segments between three and five.

Downloading files not handled by FlashGet

FlashGet does not automatically download some files, such as images. For downloading these files, hold down the [Ctrl] and [Alt] keys together, and click on the file or the link you want to download. FlashGet will start downloading it.

Automatically scanning downloaded files

FlashGet can automatically scan all the files it downloads, for viruses. For setting up the automatic scanning feature, go to the Tools menu and select Options, then File Manager. In the File Manager, tick 'Use virus scanner to scan the downloaded file option' for setting up the automatic scanning feature. Now, specify the path to your antivirus executable. If you do not know the path of your antivirus program, then use the Browse button to find the location of the .exe file as shown. For example, the default path to the McAfee AntiVirus executable is C:\Program Files\McAfee\VirusScan95\scan95, and for Norton AntiVirus, it is C:\Program Files\Norton Antivirus\navw32.exe. If you do not want files to be scanned automatically, then you can individually scan files, by right-clicking on them and selecting Virus scan.

Drag-and-drop files into Download Accelerator Plus

You can simply drag-and-drop download links into the download basket. For this, enable the Download Basket option from the Downloads menu. This opens up a small window titled Download.
Now click on the link to drag-and-drop it into this box. In the Download File Info box which pops up, click on the Start Download button if you want the download to start immediately. Clicking on the Download Later button puts the download into the queue for downloading later. Using the Advanced button, you can choose between the various download speeds available.
