Choosing the right format
When working on images for your Web pages, you may wonder when to use JPEG and when to use GIF. You need to save your master images in a file format other than GIF or JPEG to maintain the quality of your original image.
Maintaining Originals
Whether you are creating a graphic from scratch or working with an existing image, you will want to save your original images in an optimal format. Many artists prefer the TIFF format because it uses a lossless form of compression and will not reduce the colour depth to 256 colours as GIF does, or lose quality like JPEG does.
When you are saving images as TIFF files, use LZW Compression-default in Paint Shop Pro. In the Save As dialog box, click on Options. In the TIFF Options, you will be able to specify the dots per inch (dpi) resolution. If you are creating graphics strictly for the Web, a resolution of 72 or 100 dpi should be adequate.
If you have Paint Shop Pro 5 or above, you will want to save your master images in the PSP file format, which allows you to save layer information. Like TIFF, the PSP file format also uses a lossless form of compression.

Graphics with Transparency
Both GIF and PNG support transparent backgrounds, while JPEG does not. This issue is currently making the GIF image very popular with Web page creators and designers, while PNG still remains a rarely used format.
How to Remove Moire Patterns From Scanned Photos in Paint Shop Pro
Always scan images at 150 to 200 per cent higher than what you need for final output. In the View menu, choose Normal Viewing 1:1. Now, go to Effects > Enhance Photo > Moire Pattern Removal, and increase the Fine Details number gradually until the pattern is gone. Use the proof button to preview the image, and zoom out to 1:3 view from the Moire pattern removal dialog box. If you still see patterns or splotches, increase the Remove Bands setting, until the pattern is minimal. Use the proof button to preview again and adjust further, and click OK when you are satisfied.
Now, go to Image > Resize and activate the Actual/Print Size section and adjust the resolution and print size for the desired output. Any remaining pattern can be removed by going to Effects > Sharpen > Unsharp Mask. Here, use settings as per the image size and resolution-typically, set the radius between 1 and 3, Strength between 50 and 100, and the clipping between 1 and 5. Use your judgement to obtain the best quality image.
You may wish to apply a small amount of Gaussian blur before re-sampling if there is still any visible pattern after step 7.
